March Guest Blog Hostess: Sherri Davis

Blog Hostess: Sherri Davis

Let me tell you about Sherri:
I met Sherri a few years back at a Creative Memories Crop.  We have many mutual friends and hobbies!
Sherri, was so friendly, and helpful.
Her personality attracts you to her, she is kind and creative, and supportive.
When I was asking friends to join in my guest blogging...
Sherri signed up, and followed up with a creative card and tips!

I have been stamping since 1997
At present, the faces of my Grandbabies inspire me.
The joy that they bring is amazing!

I love to scrap and paper craft with friends.  Sometimes we go on weekend retreats to the mountains and sometimes we just spend time at each others homes.  After 28+ years, we sold our home and purchased one in the country with an acre of land. Not only is there the home we live in, but there is also a manufactured home that we will be turning into a gathering place for things like scrapping weekends, yay!  I feel so blessed with everything that we have been given in our 32 years of marriage, 5 great kids, three biological and two spouses, three grandbabies, and now a homestead in the country.  I am so grateful to share anything that I have with others and this gathering place will do just that.

My husband has been with the Manteca Fire Department for 31 years and will retire at the end of 2015 as a Battalion Chief. He has had a rewarding career but looks forward to spending time with the grandbabies on the tractor.  I worked as a lunchlady for 12 years with Manteca Unified School District.  It was the perfect job for me as a mom because I was home when my kids were home.

Here is her card:
What product does this card include?   My card is made with Recollections card stock, Stampin Up Irresistibly Yours Designer Paper, Stampin Up Sycamore Street Designer paper, Stampin Up 3/8 Organdy Ribbon and Stephanie Bernard's Colorbox Black Ink Pad.  I used my ATG gun for the adhesive.

Where did you get the idea for this card?  It is my own creation.  I am sending out notes of encouragements to my church community and this is the first one I've made for that ministry.
Is there a technique you would like me to describe?  The ribbon is done with the "cheater" method.  I tie the knot and then cut the ribbon and tape it on the back, instead of trying to tie it on the card.
What is your FAVORITE Stamping tool, set, color or occasion?  I don't really have a favorite right now.
Last but not least... who do you follow, turn to or get your inspiration and ideas from? May I use their web link on your post?  I follow Stephanie Bernards Stamps of Life, Mary at Cardz TVJuda at Chic n Scratch and Ginger at My Sisters Scrapper.

Sherri inspired me to make a faith based trifold card and to share them with friends.

Here are the directions to make a tri-fold card:
Cut your card base 11" x 4 1/4".
Score using your Simply Scored tool at 2 3/4" & 8 1/4".
Fold. (see how it makes the cute base?)
Then I cut a 4"x3" piece of cardstock to layer over the center of the tri-fold.
You can use Dimensional's, Glue Dots, or SNAIL to adhere this layer.
You could go a little bigger.
Then your décor is up to you.

Supplies used to CASE Sherri's Beautiful Card:
Blackberry Bliss Cardstock, Whisper White Cardstock, Painted Blooms DSP, Hello Honey Cardstock, Scrap of Mossy Meadow Cardstock,  Flower from Itty Bitty Accents Punch, Deco Labels Framelit, Hello Honey Stampin' Pad, Gold Glimmer Paper, Rhinestones, Glue Dots, and Trust God Stamp Set.

Manly Card Samples

Ok, I have to do this for my BUNCO Hostess next week.
She wants a Masculine themed BUNCO.
So instead of my frilly card rack...
I am making up samples with the NEW Advemture Bound DSP stack.
Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack 137780
Price: $6.95
No delicate flowers and soft colors here--these designs are bold and spirited, making them the right choice for Father's Day, graduation, or masculine projects. Great for card fronts or backgrounds. 48 sheets in each padded stack: 4 each of 12 double-sided designs. 4-1/2" x 6-1/2". Coordinates with Basic Gray, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Island Indigo, Mossy Meadow, Sahara Sand, Whisper White.

I have an order on its way
with two new Masculine Stamps but while I wait...
I must use what I have!

#1
I CASE'd this from a small glimpse of this CASE.
Her card was a Portrait layout.
I will play some more.

Supplies used: Cajun Craze Cardstock, Adventure Bound DSP Stack, Early Espresso Cardstock, Mossy Meadow Cardstock, Whisper White Cardstock, Early Espresso Baker's Twine, Woodgrain Embossing Folder, Essentials Wooden Elements, Circle Framelits, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, Best Day Ever Stamp Set, Early Espresso Stampin' Pad.

#2
This card reminds me of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol...
I will remake a holiday one!

Supplies Used: Mossy Meadow Cardstock, Adventure Bound DSP Stack, Zig Zag Embossing Folder, Essentials Wooden Elements, Crazy About You Stamp Set, Hello You Thinlets Dies, Handheld Stapler, Silver Mini Staples, Early Espresso Stampin' Pad, and Dimensional's.

#3
Ok...
So this happened when I was trying to CASE Patty Bennett.
I messed up when I used the chevron punch.
So I tore it off in anger and...
It's ok.
A remake with intent will look better.

Supplies used: Cajun Craze Cardstock, Early Espresso Cardstock, Sahara Sand Cardstock, Adventure Bound DSP Stack, Crazy About You Stamp Set, Hello You Thinlets Dies, Handheld Stapler, Silver Mini Staples, Memento Black Inck, Cajun Craze Stampin' Pad, heart from Build A Bouquet Stamp Set.

#4
My favorite color combo...
A definite winner for my sample rack!

Supplies used: Smokey Slate Cardstock, Lost Lagoon Cardstock, Basic Grey Cardstock, Adventure Bound DSP Stack, Crazy About You Stamp Set, Hello You Thinlets Dies, Handheld Stapler, Silver Mini Staples, and Dimensional's.

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday!
I am off to try and make some more masculine cards
with products I already own
while I wait for Mr. Brown to deliver my new manly goodies!

Our Old Fashioned Tupperware Party

This past Wednesday we gathered at Valerie's to have an 'Old Fashioned' Tupperware Party.
Now when I say 'old fashion' and Valerie's name is attached it does not mean old age...
It means a stiff drink!

My husband was our bartender,
Doris was our Tupperware Lady
and we girls all talked about Tupperware, Federation, husbands
and the ways we use our Tupperware.
Boy did we have a good time!

Meet Doris:
Doris has been selling Tupperware for 43 years...
And Tupperware has exsisted for 65 years.
She is very knowledgable and patient.
We all shared memories of selling, mother's selling, or how we used our Tupperware.

Here are the products I asked her to share...
So before we even started Doris had taken my interests
and placed them out to show me in person.

A few snacks:
There was squeeze cheese on crackers,
and I made a few Wildtree Dips.
Check out the star...
The Old Fashioned was quite tasty!

Ok.. Seriously... The Tupperware was the star!
I even found some to help me store my stamping tools!
Each guest shared their oldest piece
and Doris could tell them when it was bought and from what collection it was from!
I won't lie...
I learned more that I thought I knew about Tupperware
and in an hour we still had only seen a few products!

Look for Tupperware Party #2 coming soon... So much I want now!

Here are a few rips I learned from Doris and a few I will use in my own business....

First... If you cannot get a lid to seal fill the dish with hot water
and run the kid under hot water seal it and let it cool down, that should losen it.

Second... She had each item labeled with the page it was located on.

Third... She showcased each item as she talked.

Best tip... Doris said
"If someone is going to spend $10 on an item I am going to give then 10 reasons to use it!"

In everything I do in Stampin' Up I always value the ability to use items more than once.
I also appreciate knowing multiple ways I can use a product.  I am going to carry her tip with me in everything I show!

Another perk about Tupperware that has worn off on me is gifts for the attendees.
Here is my loot!

I am going to make her a thank you card...
Supplies Used: Basic Black Cardstock, Whisper White Cardstock, Tempting Turquoise Cardstock, Island Indigo Cardstock, Night Of Navy Cardstock, 2 1/2" Circle Punch, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, Stazon, Lots of Thanks Stamp Set, Large Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Dimensional's, & Island Indigo Bakers Twine.

For those of you that want to try the Old Fashioned:

ingredients

  • 1 scant teaspoon simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters, plus more to taste
  • 1 half dollar–sized slice orange peel, including pith
  • 2 ounces good-quality rye or bourbon
  • 1 maraschino cherry

preparation

In old-fashioned glass, combine simple syrup and bitters. Fill glass halfway with ice, then stir about a dozen times. Add enough ice to fill glass. Squeeze orange peel over glass to extract oils, add peel to glass, and add whiskey. Stir just until drink is cold and alcoholic bite has softened, about a dozen times. Garnish with cherry, swizzle stick, and straw.

Hope you enjoy!
